Calling it an obsession would be an understatement. A girlfriend from the gym told me about this “awesome dive bar” months ago and I had completely forgotten about it, until one Friday night our West end plans fell through and we wanted something quick, close and casual. Enter Pinkerton’s.
Who knew so much fun could be had at such an unassuming little joint on Gerrard Street East? Sitting at the bar with my husband, the bartender extraordinaire named Adam took pleasure in our spontaneity and began to craft us some pretty unique cocktails. One, and then another .. they just kept coming (and if you follow me on insta-stories, you likely watched this exact night unfold right before your lucky eyes)
The music is loud at Pinkerton’s. You aren’t going there to break up with your boyfriend, you are there to unwind & enjoy some delicious food and drink with a lively crew. I have to say, my expectations of the food were pretty low as I walked into the joint … however I think the fact that I woke up yesterday craving their steamed bao is a bit of a tip off that it surpassed all expectations.
What to order? I guess the question should be what NOT to order. Each time we have been we have shared about 5-6 plates and they have all been fantastic. I would have to say my favourites would be the steamed bas buns, the laab style beef tartare, the pork neck pancake and the Fausto’s chicken special (I’m a meat eater can you tell?)
I have to say it’s pretty pleasing seeing the East end (and more specifically Gerrard East) draw more and more of these types of spots. Sure, maybe it’s because I don’t want to pay 40$ for an uber every time I want to enjoy a nice meal, or maybe it’s because I am pretty loyal to the east, either way it’s a win win.
Huge congrats to Pinkerton’s … see you this Friday. I’ll be sitting at the bar with the hubs.
